Step into a world of hushed glances, slow-burning romance, and aching nostalgia. In the Mood for Love is an evening devoted to Chinese love songs—spanning Mandopop classics and cinematic themes from Wong Kar-wai’s iconic film—reimagined through a lush, jazz-inflected lens by Eastbound Echo.

Eastbound Echo 東行回音 is a jazz-inspired Mandopop ensemble that reinterprets the music of a generation with heart, harmony, and a fresh creative voice. Led by bassist and arranger Julian Wittich 紀安, a Taiwanese-Dutch musician who grew up in Taiwan, the project draws deeply from personal memory and the sounds of artists like Jay Chou 周杰倫, Khalil Fong 方大同, and Faye Wong 王菲—music that once filled living rooms, late-night radios, and city streets.

Julian’s bicultural perspective shapes the ensemble’s sound: a meeting point of diasporic nostalgia and jazz improvisation, where familiar melodies are reharmonized, stretched, and lovingly reimagined—honoring the emotional core of Mandopop while opening new sonic pathways.

The band features April Wu 吳思瑤 and Danni Wu 吳丹妮 on vocals; Edelyn Huang 黃懷萱 on piano, keys, and synths; Nick Biello on saxophone; and Ian Wacksman on drums. Together, they weave East and West, memory and motion, into an intimate, cinematic performance.

From tender ballads to slow-burn grooves, Eastbound Echo offers a night suspended in longing—a love letter to songs that linger, glances that last a little too long, and moments forever caught in the mood for love.
